Free Rummy score sheet online, and how to make your own
Keep score in Rummy and Rummy 500 on a phone in the middle of the table. Type in each player's hand score, minus scores included, and it keeps the running totals, shows who's ahead and calls the winner at 500. Print blank score sheets too. Nothing is sent anywhere. Then make your own with a free AI assistant.
Loading the score keeper…
Your game saves in this browser only, so you can close the page and carry on later. Nothing is sent anywhere, and you can clear it any time in Settings. It uses the same players as our other score keepers.
How Rummy 500 scoring works
In Rummy 500, you score for the cards you lay down in melds (sets of three or four of a kind, and runs of three or more in one suit) and lose points for the cards still in your hand when someone goes out. Each hand, add up your melds and take away your hand. Your score can be below zero. The first player to reach 500 wins, and if more than one gets there in the same hand, the highest total wins.
| Card | Points |
|---|---|
| 2 to 9 | 5 |
| 10, Jack, Queen, King | 10 |
| Ace | 15 (or 5 if played low, in A-2-3) |
| Your hand score | Cards in your melds minus cards left in your hand |
Example: you laid down three Kings (30) and 7-8-9 of hearts (15), and you're caught holding an Ace and a 4 (15 + 5 = 20). Your hand scores 30 + 15 − 20 = 25. Plenty of families score simpler kinds of Rummy, where only the cards left in your hand count against you; type whatever your rules say, and pick a target of 100, 250, 500 or 1,000 in the settings.
Your own Rummy score keeper
You'll describe the score keeper to a free AI assistant, paste what it writes into a file, and open it in your browser. Then add the game's own rules, the winner, saving and printing, one step at a time.
- A score sheet with a column for every player and a row for every hand, with running totals
- A number pad with a minus key, for hands where you lose points
- Quick buttons for the card values: 5, 10 and 15
- Standings with the highest score on top, and a winner when someone reaches your target
- Undo, saving, tap-to-fix for any score, and printable blank sheets
Good for: couples and families who play Rummy every week, anyone tired of adding up minus numbers in the margin, and long games that run over two evenings.
What you need
Build it in five steps
Step 1 gives you a simple version that works, and each step after it adds more. The score keeper at the top of this page is roughly what you'll have once you've done every step. Yours will look a bit different, because the AI writes its own version each time.
Ask for a simple Rummy score sheet
Copy this prompt into your AI assistant:
Copy this promptI don't know how to code. Please make me a Rummy 500 score keeper that runs in a web browser, for my family to use instead of a paper score sheet. Requirements: - ONE single HTML file (HTML, CSS and JavaScript together), no external libraries, no internet needed. I will save it and double-click it. - At the top, a list of players with a name box for each, an "Add player" button (up to 8 players) and a small remove button. Start with two players called "Player 1" and "Player 2". - Below, a score table with one column for each player and a new row for each hand. Under each score, show the player's running total in smaller text. - At the end of each round, a big number button next to each player's name. Tapping it opens a number pad (with a minus key, because scores can be below zero) to type their score. A "Save round" button adds the round to the table once everyone has a score. - A "Total" row at the bottom. The HIGHEST total wins, so highlight the highest total. - Big, clear, friendly design with a dark background and buttons big enough to tap on a phone. Please give me the complete file in one code block, then tell me in simple steps how to save and open it.
Copy the code, paste it into your text editor, and save it as rummy.html. Double-click it, type your family's names and add a couple of hands.
Add the card buttons and a target score
Now counting a hand is a few taps, and it knows when the game is over.
Copy this promptThat works, thank you. Please add: - In the number pad, quick buttons that add card values: "+5 (2 to 9)", "+10 (10 to King)" and "+15 (Ace)", plus a minus key so I can take cards away. - A setting for the target score: 100, 250, 500 or 1,000, with 500 as the default. - When anyone's total reaches the target after a hand, the game is over: the highest total wins (or a tie). Show it in a big friendly message with a "Play again" button. Send me the complete updated file.
Always ask for the complete file. Replace everything in rummy.html, save, and refresh the tab (F5 or Cmd+R).Add the standings and the dealer
A quick glance tells everyone where they stand.
Copy this promptPlease add: - A "Standings" list next to the table, sorted from highest total to lowest, with a place number for each player. - A thin progress bar under each player's name showing how close they are to the target. - Say who deals each hand, moving one player along each time. Send me the complete updated file.
Save the game, add undo, and print score sheets
Someone always types the wrong number, and someone always closes the tab. This step fixes both, and gives you paper sheets for when you'd rather use a pencil.
Copy this promptPlease add saving, undo and printing: - Save the players and the game in localStorage after every change, so refreshing or closing the page doesn't lose anything. Add a note saying "Your game saves in this browser only. Nothing is sent anywhere." and a "Clear saved game" button that asks first. - An "Undo" button that takes back the last change, however many times I press it. Keep a copy of the whole game before each change to make this simple. - Let me tap any score in the table to change it, and work all the totals out again. - A "Print" panel with a choice of "A4" and "US Letter" paper, and buttons to print: 1. A blank score sheet that fills one page, with six player columns (a score and a running total for each), a row for every round, and the scoring rules in a box at the bottom. 2. The game being played right now, with everyone's scores filled in. - When printing, show only the sheet, with no buttons, using a print stylesheet and @page with the right paper size and 10 mm margins. Every sheet must fit on exactly one page. Send me the complete updated file.
Make it look and feel finished
Last of all, the touches that make it nice to pass round the table.
Copy this promptPlease finish it off: - Coloured animal avatars for players, which I can change, and up and down arrows to change the order. - A strip of player cards across the top showing each player's total, with a crown on whoever is winning. - A big celebration with confetti when someone wins, and a "Play again" button that keeps the players. - A "Keep the screen awake" tick box using the Wake Lock API, hidden or greyed out if the browser can't do it. - On a phone, stack everything in one column, make every button at least 44 pixels tall, and let the score table scroll sideways inside its box, never the whole page. Send me the complete updated file.
Quick fixes
I can't type a minus score on my phone
Phone number keyboards often have no minus sign, which is why the score keeper uses its own number pad. Tell the AI: "Use your own on-screen number pad with a ± key instead of a text box, so I can type minus scores on a phone."
The game doesn't end at 500
Tell the AI: "After every saved hand, check every player's total. If any total is 500 or more, end the game, and the highest total wins."
The game was gone when I opened it again
Saving only works in the same browser on the same device, and private or incognito windows forget everything when they close. If it never saves, tell the AI: "Please save the whole game to localStorage after every change and load it when the page opens."
The printout spills onto a second page or shows the buttons
In the print window, set the scale to 100% (or "Default"), not "Fit to page", and pick the same paper size as the score keeper. If it's still wrong, tell the AI: "When printing, hide everything except the score sheet, and make the sheet a few millimetres shorter than the page so it always fits on one page."
It opens as text
Re-save as plain text with exactly .html at the end, not .txt.
Questions people ask
How do you score Rummy 500?
At the end of each hand, add up the cards you laid down in melds and take away the cards still in your hand. Cards 2 to 9 are 5 points, 10s and picture cards are 10 and Aces are 15 (or 5 if played low). The first player to reach 500 wins.
Can you have a negative score in Rummy?
Yes. If the cards left in your hand are worth more than the ones you laid down, your hand score is below zero and your total goes down. The number pad has a minus key for this.
What happens if two players pass 500 in the same hand?
The player with the higher total wins. If it's a tie, you can play one more hand, or share the win.
Does it work for Gin Rummy or other kinds of Rummy?
Yes, as long as you type in the score your rules give each player. Set the target to 100 for Gin Rummy, and give the losing player 0 for the hand.
Can I print a Rummy score sheet?
Yes. Press Print in the score keeper and choose a blank Rummy score sheet, on A4 or US Letter, with the card values at the bottom. You can also print the game you're playing now.
Is it free, and is my game private?
Yes. There's no sign-up and no adverts in the score keeper. The game is saved in your own browser so you can carry on later, and nothing is sent anywhere. Clear it any time in Settings.
Twist it into something else
Players, rounds, undo, saving and printing work for almost any game with a score pad. Change the first prompt to make:
A Gin Rummy scorer
knock and gin bonuses, undercuts, and a box bonus for each hand won
A Canasta score keeper
bonuses for natural and mixed canastas, and the minimum meld that rises with your score
A Five Crowns score keeper
eleven rounds with a different wild card each time
A games night league table
keep every game's winner for the year, with a trophy cabinet
Your rules, your table, no adding up
Score pads go missing and the adding up always lands on one person. Yours handles minus scores and your own target, works on any phone or tablet, keeps the game if someone closes the tab, and never sends your scores anywhere. It's also a great first "real" app: buttons, tables, saving and printing, all in one small file you understand.
